Data attribution & licenses

Required attributions for open data used in producing Measure outputs.

• OpenStreetMap — © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL). Where a Measure output is a derived work of ODbL data, that derivation is offered under the same license.
• U.S. Geological Survey 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) — public domain elevation data, courtesy of the U.S. Geological Survey.
• Microsoft Building Footprints — © Microsoft, available under the ODbL.
• U.S. Census Bureau — geocoding services and TIGER cartographic boundary files, public domain.
• USDA / USGS aerial imagery — NAIP and The National Map imagery services, public domain. This is the source for every image Measure produces: the aerials in reports, in renders, and in anything sent to a customer are NAIP, fetched from the USGS image service at the resolution the property needs.
• County and municipal GIS services — Cook County (Illinois), Allegheny County via PASDA (Pennsylvania), and New York City orthophotography, together with municipal storm-drainage layers such as the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority inlet dataset, each under the terms published by that authority.
• Esri World Imagery — the basemap beneath the interactive maps in the signed-in console, and nowhere else. This page previously said it was not used by default, which was not true of the console. The reason is a limit rather than a preference: the public-domain USGS tile cache serves zoom 16 and stops, and looking at a single building needs 18 or 19, so a public-domain basemap would go blank exactly where the work happens. Nothing Measure generates, stores or sends is built from these pixels — reports, renders and anything a customer can forward are NAIP. Displayed in the browser, they remain subject to Esri’s own terms and are credited as Esri, Maxar, Earthstar Geographics and the GIS User Community.
